Auburn University welcomed 103 new households to the George Petrie Society at a biennial celebration held in April. More than 300 members and guests attended the event.
The Petrie Society honors the special group of Auburn Family members who have created a planned gift to make a difference at the university.
The new members have a combined commitment to Auburn University of more than $53 million.
Those who attended were treated to an entertaining evening with the theme: “The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” With tie-ins to the Toomer’s Oaks, members and guests heard special messages from university leadership and Markelle Scott, a biomedical sciences major and scholarship recipient. Guests also enjoyed a performance by the AU Singers.
In total, the Petrie Society has more than 1,300 member households, representing $698 million in commitments to Auburn University.
Any Auburn Family member is eligible to join the Petrie Society by creating a planned gift of any size or type, including a future gift through a will, living trust, beneficiary designation, retirement assets, or other methods.
By leaving a future gift to Auburn University, Petrie Society members are ensuring the vitality of Auburn for generations to come.
