Director Emeritus
Brown earned a bachelor’s degree chemical engineering from Auburn University in 1957. He became president and chief executive officer of Stryker Corporation in 1977 and was appointed chairman of the board in 1980; a position he held until his retirement in 2010 when he was named Chairman Emeritus. Brown received an honorary doctorate from Auburn University in 2017.
Brown served on the Foundation Board from 2007 – 2015 when he was elected Director Emeritus. He and his wife, Rosemary, are members of the 1856 Society President’s Circle, the Foy Society Cater Circle, Engineering Ginn Society 1908 Founder’s Circle. The Brown’s are lifetime members of the Alumni Association and Mr. Brown received the Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
In 2015 the Brown’s committed the largest gift in school history to support the funding of two major new facilities: a new performing arts center and a student achievement center in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering.
The Brown’s reside in Atlanta, Georgia and have two daughters.
