Heston completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accountancy at Auburn in 1985 and immediately began his 30-year practice of public accounting with Ernst & Young LLP. He became a certified public accountant in 1988, was admitted as a partner in 2000. He performs independent audit and other services for multi-national public and private companies. He also coordinates the firm’s matching gifts campaign benefiting Auburn.
In 2007, Heston received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Auburn’s School of Accountancy and began his current service on its Advisory Council. Heston is the past president of the Atlanta Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs, and he serve on the boards of Atlanta-based organizations focused on orphan care (Lifeline Children Services Georgia Chapter) and eliminating homelessness (24/7 Gateway Center).
While at Auburn he served as the treasurer of Sigma Nu’s Beta Theta chapter, and also as officer and member of business related organizations, Beta Alpha Psi and Delta Sigma Pi. He is a life member of the Auburn Alumni Association, and a member of Auburn’s James E. Foy Loyalty Society, the Samford Society, and the 1856 Society. He is married to Mary Grace Heston and together they have seven children — two of whom graduated from Auburn in 2016.
