Under Chris’ leadership, the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering has nearly doubled enrollment since 2007 and had record-breaking years for research expenditures and awards. Since 2015, Chris’ faculty hiring initiative resulted in more than 100 new faculty hires. The college has risen in the U.S. News and World Report rankings under Chris’ leadership, ranking 29th among public engineering institutions for the 2019-20 year.
With a strong record of scholarly and academic achievement in nanotechnology and synthetic fuels, Chris has published more than 110 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in leading chemical engineering, chemistry, materials and related journals. He has been the principal investigator or significant co-principal investigator on more than $16 million in extramurally funded research contracts and grants at Auburn University from agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, the United States Department of Agriculture, the National Energy Technology Lab, industrial sponsors and others.
He has been honored with numerous awards for his contributions to the field of engineering including the Outstanding Professor Award, the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council's Faculty Research Award, the Walker Merit Teaching Award and the SEC's Auburn University Faculty Achievement Award, among others.
Roberts was asked to serve as the Interim Vice President for Development effective July 1, 2020. In this role he also will serve as the Interim President of the Auburn University Foundation and Auburn University Real Estate Foundation.
