Sanders earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1995. She completed a master’s in materials engineering from Auburn in 1999. She is the Principal at Ernst and Young in Atlanta, Georgia.

Sanders is a former President of the Auburn Alumni Association. She is a member of the Engineering 100 Women Strong Executive Committee, the Engineering Council, the Athletics All-American Society, Engineering Ginn Society, Engineering Eagle Society, 1856 Society, Petrie Society, and the Foy Society (15 Years).
