Among the most important functions of a university foundation is the identification and recruitment of the directors who form the Foundation Board. The selection of directors will determine the success of the Foundation in investments, fundraising, financial management, administration, and endowment growth. Careful selection of Board members with appropriate skill sets will have a tremendous impact not only on the Foundation, but also on the future of the University.
Each member of the Auburn University Foundation Board of Directors is unique in his or her strengths and abilities. Each director in his or her own way has the capacity to advance the University through advocacy in the community and as an advocate for philanthropy

Directors are expected to:

  1. Attend three Board meetings: one in the winter, fall, and spring. Incoming Directors, as well as Committee Chairs, are required to attend New Director Orientation which is scheduled for January.
  2. Be active on at least one Foundation committee.
  3. Help raise private gifts by personally making a leadership gift, identifying other potential major gift prospects, opening doors for Auburn University Advancement staff to meet with major gift prospects, and to introduce potential donors to the University.
  4. Be advocates for Auburn University and Auburn Montgomery in their communities and serve as ambassadors for the University.
  5. Provide feedback and input to University officials from the various constituents of the University.
  6. Please share the names and other pertinent information about individuals you believe would make excellent Board members, taking into consideration the value of including individuals who reflect the diversity of the Auburn family. The
  7. Auburn University Foundation nomination process is open throughout the year. However, to be considered for the 2025 class, nominations must be received no later than April 30.
